Waterproofing in Lisbon
Water entering through a roof or terrace requires understanding the entry route, substrate condition and drainage. The system is chosen after assessment.

When assessment is usefulWhat needs checkingHow the work is definedPreparing your enquiryBefore you begin.01
When assessment is useful
Stains after rain, water near outlets or recurring ingress after a local repair help prepare a visit. They do not establish whether full replacement or a local seal is appropriate.
Assessment may cover the exposed surface, wall interfaces, joints, penetrations and drainage, depending on the issue and access.
02
What needs checking
Existing construction, moisture, adhesion, compatibility, movement and use affect the work. Preparation and critical details should be identified rather than hidden under “apply product”.
Membranes and liquid systems have different requirements. A proposal should identify the system, detailing and relevant application documentation; a brand alone does not define a solution.
03
How the work is defined
Define removals, corrections, protection, materials, interfaces, outlets, waste and finish. Ask how the work will be checked and what maintenance is recommended.
A local repair may have limits; full replacement also needs justification. Scope should follow assessment and be understood before contracting.
04
Preparing your enquiry
Provide the location, visible water area, timing and earlier interventions. Plans or existing system information may help.
Photographs taken safely can prepare assessment. Do not access the roof or dismantle elements to obtain them.
Waterproofing
The system depends on the roof.
The substrate, drainage, movement and surface use inform assessment. A material family alone does not define a solution.

Bituminous membranes
Membrane systems whose suitability depends on the substrate, fixing, interfaces and specified protection.
Synthetic membranes
TPO/FPO or PVC, depending on the specified system. Compatibility, fixing and joining need their own assessment.
Liquid systems
Polyurethane or PMMA, depending on the application. Preparation, substrate conditions and detailing form part of the solution.
Joints, interfaces and penetrations
Outlets, pipes, interfaces and joints require details compatible with the system and expected movement.
Selection and application availability are confirmed during assessment. Systems are not interchangeable; the proposal should identify the solution and applicable documentation.
Before you begin.
Can a system be applied over the existing one?
It depends on condition, compatibility and substrate requirements. Assessment should justify preparation, removal or retention.
Should outlets and interfaces be included?
The proposal should identify relevant details and included work. Outlets, joints and interfaces may be critical to the system.
Does waterproofing remove the need for maintenance?
Do not assume this. Use, cleaning, drainage and inspection need recommendations appropriate to the contracted system.
